We are honored to introduce you to the second cohort of the Winter Tangerine Fellowship: Nefertiti Asanti & mase johnson.
This program was conceived with the goal of developing a truly dynamic and radically accessible space of literary mentorship. The year-long fellowship involves collaborating with and contributing to Winter Tangerine in a variety of ways. Mase and Nefertiti will write, edit and fully complete a chapbook with the support of WT staff, the thoughtful mentorship of Chen Chen, Julian Randall, and Xandria Phillips, and the guidance of guest writers. Their chapbooks will be published by our sister press, Honeysuckle Press, in 2020. Throughout the year, Mase and Nefertiti will review submissions, expand their editorial prowess, and conceptualize new ways of engaging an online literary audience and fortifying sustainable community; all of this to further prepare them with the ever-changing landscapes of literature and art.
We received hundreds of applications for this year’s fellowship and were floored again and again by the depth of writing and sincerity of craft. Mase and Nefertiti twist time and defy gravity. We were impressed with their histories of careful study and risky experimentation and remain humbled by the remarkable awareness of place, deference to the truth, and investment in possibilities hitherto unimaginable evinced in their writing. These writers are, no doubt, exceptional. Please join us in welcoming them to the Winter Tangerine community!
